Yellow Fever Vaccination in Grimsby

Yellow fever is a serious viral illness spread by mosquitoes in parts of Africa and South America. Some countries require proof of vaccination before they'll let you in, and in others it's strongly recommended. Grimsby Travel Clinic, part of Weelsby View Pharmacy, can advise whether you need the vaccine and, where appropriate, provide it along with your certificate.

Who needs a yellow fever vaccine?

You may need it if you're travelling to or through a country where yellow fever is present, or one that requires a certificate on arrival. Requirements can depend on the route you take, not only your final destination, so it's important to check before you book flights or connections. We'll check the requirements for your full itinerary.

How the vaccine works

The yellow fever vaccine is usually given as a single injection. For the certificate to be valid it must be given at least 10 days before you travel, so don't leave it to the last minute. Once vaccinated, you'll receive an International Certificate of Vaccination to carry with your passport.

Is it suitable for everyone?

Not always. The vaccine isn't suitable for some people, including certain young babies, some people with weakened immune systems, and some people with particular allergies, and extra care is taken for older travellers and during pregnancy. We'll assess your health history at your consultation before recommending it. If it isn't right for you, we'll talk through your options.

Yellow fever FAQs

How far ahead should I book? As early as you can, and at least 6 to 8 weeks before travel. The vaccine itself must be given at least 10 days before you travel for the certificate to be valid.

Do I need a booster dose? For most people a single dose gives long-lasting protection, and the certificate is generally valid for life. We'll confirm what applies to you and your destination.

Which countries require a yellow fever certificate? It varies and can change. We'll check the current requirements for your destination and any countries you pass through.

Can I get the vaccine on the NHS? Yellow fever vaccination is only available privately.
